SPAM® Shanghai

SPAM® Shanghai is the ninja of SPAM® recipes. You think you’re eating some tasty junk food. Little did you know you’re crunching on a whole garden of veggies. Sneaky SPAM® Shanghai!

Ingredients

  • 1 x 340g can of SPAM® Classic , julienne cut
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ tbsp fish sauce (patis)
  • ¼ of whole cabbage, shredded
  • 1/8 kg baguio beans, thinly sliced, slant
  • 1 medium size orange sweet yam (peeled, sliced julienne cut)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 10-15 pcs big fresh spring roll wrapper

Directions

  1. In a medium sauté pan, sauté onions and garlic with oil. Season with fish sauce
  2. Add SPAM® Classic and all vegetables (except for shredded cabbage)
  3. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until vegetables are cooked but still crunchy
  4. Add shredded cabbage last. Season to taste with salt and pepper
  5. Drain and let cool
  6. When cooled, scoop 1 ½ - 2 tbsp of SPAM® Classic/vegetable filling onto the fresh big spring roll wrapper. Roll and secure with flour/water paste
  7. Deep fry until golden brain. Drain onto strainer
  8. Serve with either: sweet and sour sauce or vinegar; minced garlic; chopped red onions/chili sauce
